History & Goals Our objective is to
develop and produce high performance animals as seedstock for the
Northeastern US producer market. We are working to create goats by
genetic design through planned cross-breeding, rigorous selection,
and careful measurement of production results.
We operate a capital intensive, low labor system, for optimum use of
highly skilled management time and effort. This requires fencing,
gating and livestock control systems for minimal effort and animal
stress in moving, weighing, measuring and treating animals.
We make maximum use of forage and roughage, with minimal use of
purchased grain concentrates at all stages of production, in order
to develop and select for a highly efficient, low input cost herd.
The single most important indicator is litter weaning weight.
That single factor is the product of the doe’s fertility, litter
size, and kidding and mothering ability. The bottom line is
simply pounds of kids weaned.
We gratefully acknowledge support and help from the Cornell
Cooperative Extension Service (Dr. tat Stanton and her colleagues),
the ESMGPA, and folks like Dr. Frank Pinkerton (A/K/A the Goat Man),
Dr. Bob Herr, Brian Payne, Chris Glynos, Dennis Hamm of Poplar Hill
Farm, Dr. An Peischel of Goats Unlimited, Jim and Connie Bailey, and
many others.
